Orthodontic Exams
An orthodontic exam is a crucial part of maintaining oral health at every stage of life—childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. During your orthodontic consultation, we will assess the following:
- The presence of missing or extra adult teeth
- The exfoliation timing of baby teeth and the eruption timing of adult teeth
- Impaction of adult teeth (teeth unable to erupt due to being stuck in the bone)
- Growth balance between the upper and lower jaws in children and adolescents, and facial symmetry in adults
- Root health of adult teeth, including delayed vs. normal development and short vs. long shapes
- The orientation and position of unerupted and erupted adult teeth
- Vertical bite conditions, such as deep bite or open bite
- Sagittal bite conditions, including overbite, underbite, and crossbites
- Crowding and spacing of teeth
- Straightness or rotation of teeth
- Health of the palatal soft tissue and the thickness/position of the gums
- Teeth size discrepancies
- The position and thickness of the frenum
- The position and orientation of wisdom teeth
- Aesthetic smile form
Having a consultation with a specialized orthodontist at any stage of life ensures that these conditions are thoroughly evaluated, helping to maintain optimal oral health and support any potential dental treatments, including restorations.
